Bugging Out of USA: Grass is Greener on the other Side...

The reason I would consider leaving the country is taxation. If you are middle class now, you are lucky to take 50% of your pay check home. Private property is a myth in the US. The average $200,000 house in Texas costs about $5500 in property taxes. Don’t pay them and in three month the sheriff is at your door with an eviction notice. So in effect, the proud home owner in America is merely a tenant of the county. Add to that sales tax and income tax and we're are not that much better than Europeans.

Don’t even get me started on the cost of higher education. Good public schools like UT cost just as much as a private school. Oh and if you want to send a kid to medical or law school you better start buying lottery tickets now.

So for these reasons, I would consider other part of the world at least for education of the kids and perhaps for retirement.
